>Children's Museum

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>Last week Carrie and I took the kids to the Portland Children's Museum. We discovered they have outgrown it. There was still some things that held their interest, but for the most part they were too old.

>Happy Birthday to Me!

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>I'm 40-years-old today. My mind stopped maturing at age 27. My gut kept pace with my age. But, I'm healthy, and I feel pretty good. Carrie got me some Tempurpedic slippers. They're like butter!

>Hollywood Horses

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson were shooting a movie up the McKenzie River at Koosah Falls. We went up there with permission from some dude in Hollywood working on the production. We get the big run around but are finally escorted within about 100-yards of where they are actually filming. I was told I could not shoot the actors. No problem there, I never saw them. I thought for sure I was going to leave without any photos. Then, at the last minute, the wranglers come by with the horses that the lead actors are using the movie. That's all I got.

>Flooding in Mapleton

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>I went to Mapleton, and shot flooding, went to Deadwood to shoot a mudslide, found some kayakers in Tide, at lunch in Florence, stopped in Eugene and shot the owner of fish market, put the photos in the system and then went and shot a Tai Chi instructor before going home. It sounds easy I guess, but after driving 186 miles and working 12 hours, I'm still tired.

>My First Real Audio Slideshow

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>This simple audio slideshow project was published today at my paper's website. It was my first real project and it was the first time The Register-Guard has ever published an audio slideshow. It seems to be a hit. Click the link above to The Register-Guard website to play the slideshow.

>Taxi Driver

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>For the past year, mostly because of this blog, and because I went fully digital last January, I've a camera with me pretty much all the time. For the most part, it's been a pain in the butt. Other times it's paid off in small ways. In this case, I shot a photo of my taxi driver in Tempe, AZ. The biggest benefit is just getting to know a new camera system and practicing with it as much as possible. I'm pretty sure I've shot more photos this year than any other year of my career.

>Cole Blows

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>Cole had his Cub Scout meeting tonight. They played a game where they moved a cone down a string by blowing on it. Not bad for kid who supposedly has asthma. He also got his Pinewood Derby car tonight. He was pretty pumped. I told him I soup his up with bottle rockets and he'd win for sure.

>NEW INFORMATION ON THIS PHOTO BELOW

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>INFORMATION UPDATE: My mother gave me this ferrotype (tintype) photo. It's about the size of a business card. It shows two men in their mid to late thirties and they are twins. They are Henry, left, and Chris Schwenn. Henry is my great-great grandfather. Which, makes them my grandmother's grandfather to be more clear. I guess Henry was a drinker and sent his daughter (my great-grandmother), Frida, on errands to bring back a bucket of beer for him. He shipped her off to live with family most of the time. She didn't did learn english until she was 12-years-old. The photo was probably taken in Cincinatti. In any event, I cleaned it up a little in photoshop and posted it here for all to see. Click the above link to see a photo on this blog that shows my grandmother and her sisters as children.

>Greta Steal's Another Ball

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>This was Greta's first game at the jamboree where they play a bunch of teams in a short amount of time. I thought it was kind of cool that some action happened in small beam of light coming through the door window.

>Cole Establishes Himself As A Gunner

Added on by Thomas Boyd.

>This isn't a great photo or anything, but it's a pretty funny if you know what's going on. Cole had stolen the ball at half court. He dribbled once. By that I mean the ball bounced exactly one time. He then ran with the ball about ten feet to the free throw line where he's standing when this photo was taken. From there, he took a shot and it swooshed in as he fell to the floor. At the same time, Carrie was videotaping as you can see in the background. It would have been great video but the referee walked right in front of her as he shot the basket as you can see in the photo.
